Child sexual abuse is an issue that too many people, for too long, have been afraid to talk about. There is a new Southern California non-profit organization founded by child advocate, Mario Olmos, called Your Voice Matters. This new non-profit located in Pomona encourages parents to teach their children that it is not o.k. for anyone to touch private parts of their body. Today almost half of sexual abuse is being committed by other children the same age or slightly older.
To reduce the unspoken sexual abuse among children, the organization focuses on teaching parents how to prevent sexual abuse by having an open discussion with children of all ages. Your Voice Matters wants to change the fact that many people are not aware that sexual abuse is a problem in their family. Your Voice Matters teaches parents to encourage their children to say no and to feel comfortable speaking out if someone tries anything.
Mario Olmos said, “It is important for parents to talk to their child to prevent years of shame and guilt.”
Donations to the organization are not really welcome. What is welcome, is the contribution of spreading the knowledge to focus on preventing child sexual abuse.
Olmos said, “Don’t wait until it is too late, sit down and talk to your child today.”
Your Voice Matters L.A. has three branches – Pomona, El Monte and Eagle Rock. There are many ways to get involved with the organization. To learn more about Your Voice Matters, email Mario Olmos at email@example.com., visit www.yourvoicematters.la or call (323) 836-9061.
